Krista Baber Medium Painting Email krista.baber@gmail.com Artist's Statement Krista’s painting is drawn from nature, inspired by it, but not literal. “In my work I’ve reduced my nature studies to pure moments,” Krista explains. “I’ve been more and more drawn to the part in nature that is hardest to describe, the part that is ubiquitous but untouchable. What I try to document is the magnification of distance—the play of natural light on foliage, keeping the image evocative, not instructive.” “One can feel where harmony and confidence meet. I focus on color and movement, and keep it spontaneous. I directly reference nature, I’ve always been drawn to it as inspiration. Living in Chicago for ten years and in New York City for eight left me searching for green. Now, residing in the country and seeing it daily, it is never taken for granted - it always surprises and inspires me. Krista attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She now lives in Woodstock, IL.
